Notebooks

I reach for notebooks when I need a thinking surface that feels as considered as what I’m thinking about. I prefer ones that are structured enough to feel professional, but intimate enough to feel personal. Notebooks are where my projects begin before they become systems.

A note on perfect bound notebooks: Perfect binding allows the pages to lie completely flat, which means there’s not physical resistance between an idea and the page. This is largely why I have so many of them.

The Commonplace Notebook Set - details

I use the 365 Notebook for work, the spiral graph for commonplace notes, and the compact monthly notebook for gardening.

The orange band adds a layer of utility that makes the system even easier to use.

Common Thread A5 Slim - details

My Art and Design Gallery Guide lives in the Common Thread A5 Slim Notebook, chosen for its balance of structure and flexibility.

The slim format is easy to carry through galleries and studios, while the dual-sided pages create space for two modes of thinking, observation and reflection. I use it to document artists and exhibitions, building a personal archive of what I’m drawn to and why. Over time, it becomes less of a notebook and more of a record of taste.
